Update on Earn while you Burn

Good news for the participants who have registered for the “Biggest Loser “, competition , ”  The municipality has announced to double the gold for every kilo you loose” Instead of the previously announced 1 gm, we will give 2 gm of gold for each kilo lost for those who loose 5 kg n above and 3 grams of gold for those who loose 10 kilo n above and the news sounds even better … since the timeline has also been increased so you guys can register any day before 16 August ( campaign deadline) . Those who have already registered shall get a link to complete the registration process on 1st August. I shall keep u posted for me …

Since we are signed up for the challenge of the “biggest loser” 😉 few boring yet yummy salads from my kitchen …

Sea Shell with Basil, Tomato & garlic Salad

1/2 c. extra virgin olive oil
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped or minced
3/4 t. sea salt
1/2 t. red pepper flakes
1 pt. small cherry or teardrop tomatoes (I used sugar plums)
1 lb medium seashell pasta
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, shaved
1/2 c. thinly sliced fresh basil leaves

Combine oil, garlic, pepper flakes and salt and simmer on very low heat for 5 minutes or so; being careful not to burn the garlic.  Slice half of the tomatoes and stir the tomatoes into the mixture and simmer another 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and place in a large bowl. Place the other half of the sliced tomatoes into the mixture and stir. Let stand for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.  (Raw tomatoes get juicy as they stand, which helps create the sauce.)

Meanwhile, cook pasta as package directs for al dente  in a large pot of salted water. When done, drain and toss pasta with tomato mixture, then with the cheese and all but 1 tbsp. basil. Sprinkle remaining basil on top and season with a little salt, to taste.

Voila! Super simple, healthy and delicious. I got so many compliments on this salad that I’ll definitely be making it again.

 

When brakes fail … try this

In a recent event in Sharjah, Sharjah police saved the life of a Emirati driver whose car brakes failed while driving on a motor way at a speed of 140 km/hr by guiding him to follow the following simple steps the driver came unscratched:

1. Flash car hazard lights
2. Fasten seat belt and put the car into neutral (N) position
3. Hold the wheel tight
4. Turn the engine off and on at the same time and the car brakes started functioning normal.

My advice … stay calm and dial the helpline first and if that does not work try the above .. Safe driving

Popular social media network Facebook is reportedly looking into a possible copyright infringement case against a hair salon in DUBAI.

The hairdresser in Dubai’s Discovery Gardens has come under the scanner for using a name and logo that’s similar to popular social media network Facebook.

The signboard outside the men’s salon is almost identical to that used by Facebook. It uses similar fonts in the logo and even adopts the same colour scheme – white lettering over blue background.

Earn while you Burn

Dubai ‘losers’ to win gold in bid to promote healthy lifestyle

Dubai residents are being given the chance to swap their gut for gold this Ramadan.

In a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle, Dubai Municipality has launched the ‘Your Weight in Gold’ initiative which will see participants who lose more than 2kg in one month receive 2g of gold.

The earn while you burn campaign will also see every kilo after that rewarded with another gram of the precious metal.

The initiative is sponsored by Dubai Gold Council and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).

Ahmed bin Sulaim, chairman of the DMCC said: “Health is a big issue here, not just obesity. It’s about education; eating smart and working out in the parks provided by the municipality, so I’m extremely proud of this initiative.”

The three biggest losers will also receive a gold coin that is worth Dhs20,000.

Anyone is eligible to register for the challenge.

You can sign up on Friday, July 19, between 8pm and midnight at any of these venues: gate three of Zabeel Park, the main gate of Khawaneej jogging track, the start of the running track at Mamzar Beach, gate four of Safa Park and the main gate of Al Barsha Park.

At the registration contestants will be weighed.

After 30 days the contestants will be re-weighed at any one of the venues mentioned, to see whether they have lost enough to earn their golden reward.
